About This Place

Birrieria PDX Restaurant, nestled on NE Glisan Street in Portland, Oregon, is a vibrant culinary destination specializing in authentic Mexican fare with a distinct focus on birria — a rich, flavorful stew traditionally made with slow-cooked meat. This cozy spot has quickly become a favorite among locals seeking bold, comforting flavors that leave a lasting impression.

Step inside and prepare your palate for a feast centered around their award-winning birria dishes. The star of the menu, undeniably, is their Birria Burrito—a masterpiece enveloped in a crisp layer of fried cheese that adds an irresistible crunchy texture and savory depth to each bite. The burrito is generously stuffed with tender, succulent meat, perfectly balanced by fresh onions and cilantro, creating a harmony of fresh and hearty flavors. For those who prefer street taco style, the classic Birria Meat Taco served with a side of warm consommé is nothing short of sublime. The consommé is a rich, aromatic broth that elevates the taco experience, inviting diners to dip their tacos and savor the marriage of spices and texture.

Beyond birria, the menu offers creative delights like the Quesa Birria—a flour tortilla encasing juicy meat and fried cheese again—plus the unique Spider taco, customizable with pastor, asada, pollo, veggie, or the celebrated birria itself, topped with crispy cheese, onions, and cilantro. For a hearty family gathering, the Family Bundle packs a generous combination of 32oz portions of meat, rice, consommé, tortillas, and fresh garnishes, perfect for sharing memorable meals.

The beverage selection complements the spice and richness perfectly. The Homemade Horchata, praised by customers for its creamy, soothing blend of rice, cinnamon, and vanilla, offers a gentle counterbalance to the robust flavors of the food. If you prefer something refreshing with a tangy kick, the Pepino PDX with its fresh cucumber, chamoy, and tajin rim provides a delightful palate cleanser. And whether you crave a classic Coke or the zesty Jarrito Loco infused with lime, there are cold, sparkling beverages to enhance your dining experience.

Dining at Birrieria PDX is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the food. The service is friendly and attentive, known to surprise guests with thoughtful touches such as bringing hot sauce directly to the table — a big win for spice lovers. The essence here is casual yet carefully crafted Mexican street food that tastes wonderfully authentic and indulgent without ever feeling overwhelming. Numerous patrons have lauded the balanced flavors and quality of the ingredients, noting that each bite is packed with genuine flavor without excess grease or heaviness.

Customer reviews echo the enthusiasm around this gem: Rick Sasser humorously regrets not discovering Birrieria PDX sooner, praising it for delicious and reasonably priced meals. Charlie Hascall ranks the birria meat classic street taco and consommé among the best tacos he’s ever tasted, highlighting the added charm of pickled onions, radish, and complementary salsas. Meanwhile, Cat Buckley-Chan marvels at the indulgence of burritos wrapped in fried cheese and the warm service that keeps them coming back for more. Even the beverage options receive heartfelt nods, like Steve Chao’s glowing applause for the homemade horchata, describing it as an experience that words can’t do justice.

In short, Birrieria PDX Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving the deep, soulful flavors of authentic Mexican street food in Portland. Whether you’re seeking the crispy, cheesy goodness of their signature burritos, the tender perfection of birria tacos dipped in consommé, or refreshing, carefully crafted drinks, every visit promises to be a satisfying and memorable culinary adventure.

We’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time since we’ve moved to Portland. Now I’m pissed that we didn’t try it sooner, lol. This place is so delicious and reasonably priced. We will be back time and time again!

The Birria meat classic street taco and consommé is hands down the best I’ve ever had! Probably the best taco I’ve ever had! Even the pickled onions and radish is a nice touch. Two complementary salsas(not hot) were delicious! 2 tacos were 5 bucks!!! 9.8/10

They have burritos wrapped in fried cheese!! Take a moment to let the thought of something so delicious sink in. Now go eat one! Service is great, they even brought hot sauce to the table with our food (a big plus for a fire eater like me). We can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu it looks amazing

Great birria. Didn't know the birria pdx burrito was a fried cheese covered burrito. But, that being said, it was delicious. Not too greasy, great flavor and the thin layer of cheese actually wasn't overwhelming at all. The queso tacos were great aswell. Definitely could see ordering from here again. Also the radishes and limes were very welcome additions.

I am obsessed with this place! I can’t get enough of the vampiro, spider, crunchy quesataco. Every item is absolutely delicious with their perfect hot sauce and consommé. They have always been consistent every time. 10/10 absolutely recommend. Also a better experience because they were playing Bad Bunny music videos.
